Parallel turn technique: where the real work starts

How to understand the parallel turn as a training stage, not as one trick to learn in a weekend.

Parallel turn technique: where the real work starts

I do not treat the parallel turn as one trick to learn in a weekend. It is a stage in ordered training: from getting used to the equipment, through snowplough and snowplough turns, to parallel skiing.

Technique is not random

I organise learning in stages. If the student does not control an earlier task, I do not add a harder one only because it sounds more advanced.

Difficulty grows with speed and complexity

At first, difficulty comes from more speed and a different turn radius. Later, the tasks become more complex and more dynamic.

Instructor advice

Do not judge technique only by whether the skis are parallel. Look at line, speed, balance and the timing of the turn.
