Checklist before a child's first ski trip

A short checklist for parents: slope, ski school, equipment, breaks and a backup plan.

A first ski trip with a child works best when the slope is simple logistically and the day plan does not expect too much.

Minimum before booking

  • an instructor or ski school available on the date
  • a gentle learning area close to facilities
  • a rental with children's sizes
  • a warm place for a break
  • a plan to finish before the child gets too tired

Instructor advice

A child does not need to 'use the whole ski pass' on the first day. The child should leave the slope with a feeling of control and a wish to come back.
